So how did this Canadian Girl meet this fun-loving Aussie?
Long Story Short : CROATIA!
August 2017
We met on a Busabout Sail Croatia Trip in August 2017 and it was quite literally love at first sight! I guess you could say the Boat was rocking so our wonderful Tour Guide, Anna, planned a Pirate themed Wedding for fun. Ofcourse our entire tour group was invited on a Dock on the Island of Korcula as well as anyone walking by at the time and other Busabout tour groups also attended.
We stopped at Makarska for some Pirate swag, drinks and we potentially stole some Floaties– who knows. We didn’t know anything about this exciting night. The girls on the boat wrote Kait’s vows and the guys wrote Justin’s—they were nothing less than ruthless and filthy so unfortunately we can’t even give you sample of the “romance.” (A HUGE Thank you to Kait for being such a great Sport!) So while everyone else was planning our night, we were on the top deck getting to know who we were going to be spending the rest of our week with… and here we are over a year later sharing our story.
September 2017
How did we get to where we are now?
Hands down, Justin is to thank for this. After Croatia he continued to travel and I had to come back to Canada for work. We kept in contact all through his travels to Greece and Germany and then one day, I woke up to a screen shot of a flight itinerary stating he was coming to Canada in 2 weeks. No notice-just a text. I took him around some of my favourite places in Alberta, including Banff, and he even got to meet my family and closest friends! Unfortunately my Dad was away for work so he wasn’t able to meet him…
November 2017
I traveled to Australia to see him and left not knowing when I would see him again. I fell more in love with him and adored his Family. Everything felt like it was supposed to.
January 2018
My Aussie didn’t stop the surprises there! At the time, my job consisted of a 2 weeks on and a 2 weeks off rotation, so he knew where I was for the most part. I came home from work one night, and he OPENED THE DOOR TO MY HOUSE! I obviously had no idea, but apparently my Dad, step-mom and Brother did- for an entire month. He took it upon himself to contact my Father, whom he just missed on his visit in September and asked if he could move to Canada to be with ME! WTF!! Dad noticed how happy I was and since my step mother spoke so highly of Justin, and he noticed how happy and content I have been, his response was “Whatever makes Kaiters Happy!”
July 2018
So, here we are a year later. In love.. Travelling.. Half Engaged.
Half Engaged? It was always an on going joke with Justin and I that he wasn’t going to propose to me until I did first- that way he knew I was ready. (Justin would never have actually waited for me to do it, but I thought it would be another fun story so thought what the hell- I’m doing it!) My Aussie did completely pick up his life and move across the world for me, so I wanted to make sure he understood how appreciative I am and how much I care about him.
I said as much as I could without asking him to marry me because I didn’t want to take the special moment away from him… so, I made him the sign and got down on one knee and gave him a watch!
November 9, 2018
We rented a small Yacht on the Sydney Harbour then docked our boat for a bite to eat. After dinner, we cruised over to the Opera House for some beautiful city views and lights!
Justin asked me to stand and face the Opera House so he could get a photo of me “taking in the view.” The water was a bit rough that night so I ended up sitting down, with my back still facing him and eventually turned to face him. This is where I went speechless as he was down on one knee with the most beautiful ring I have ever seen. I dont really remember him asking me to marry him, but apparently he had to ask me twice and all I could do was nod my head yes in shock. So thats why I am down on one knee too– I was losing my balance. It’s still unclear if it was from the Wine or Waves though….
So there you have it folks!
We are now fully engaged and the happiest we have ever been.
*Be sure to keep checking back as we are always posting pics & videos of our travels and everyday life!
That’s it. We love our story and hope you did too! ❤
