The World’s HIGHEST TIDES

The Hopewell Rocks
Hopewell Cape, New Brunswick, Canada

The Hopewell Rocks are located 40 minutes from Moncton, NB along the shores of the Bay of Fundy and Hopewell Cape. These incredible sandstone rock formations were carved by erosion over thousands of years, which gives them their nickname, the Flowerpot Rocks!

The tides have carved cliffs and coves to explore while walking around these magnificent cliffs! Enjoy 2kms of beach- just beside the rocks, panoramic views at the Restaurant, hands on interpretive center and a multi-media exhibit! There are lots of great view points of the Bay of Fundy and Rocks and a shuttle for those not wanting to take the many steps down to the ocean floor.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to see these incredible rocks at High Tide 🙁 But for those of you who do– make sure you kayak or canoe the tides!

A full cycle from High tide to Low tide is approximately 6hrs. You have access to walk on the ocean floor at Low tide 3 hours before and 3 hours after the quoted time. For example. If the tide schedule says low tide is at 3:15pm; you will have the most access to the ocean floor at that time because the tide will be all the way out. As time passes, the amount of ocean floor available to walk on disappears under the water! High Tide can reach up to 50ft (15m) high, which is equivalent to a four storey building!

FUN FACT : The Hopewell Rocks were first formed millions of years ago as a massive mountain range that was said to be older than the Appalachians and larger than the Canadian Rockies!
